Leptinotarsa decemlineata(Say), belonging to Chrysomelidae, Coleoptera, is also called Coloradopotato beetle which is one kind of cosmopolitan pest quarantine object. It constitutes a catastrophic crisisfor Potato Production in Xinjiang since1990s.The article studied the relationship between the potato beetles flight capacity and some biologicalcharacteristics such as ovarian development degree, spawning and the unearthed time, for exploring the lawof potato beetle’s reproductive dispersal and providing a basis for the effective control of the spread andprevention of the Colorado potato beetle. Draw the following conclusions:1、The affection of ovarian development for Potato beetles’ flight capacity: Five stages have found byanatomizing massive eclosion-adult Colorado potato beetle ovaries, they are prophase, yolk depositionprophase, yolk deposition phase, egg developmental maturity and spawning period. No significant ovarianfailure was found in Ovary of Colorado potato beetle during development. In the first stage, femalesfed up as soon as they were unearthed and ovaries of Colorado potato beetle rapidly developed. In4~5days, the eggs of Colorado potato beetles in ovaries developed to mature stage, the potato beetle began tohave the capacity to fly and show the flight behavior. From egg mature stage to spawning period (6~7days), the potato beetle’s flight capacity enhanced.2、The relationship between Potato beetle fecundity and flight capacity: The results shown that thefecundity of Potato beetle affects flight distance and time, not speed under the same conditions such astemperature, humidity, light and so on. The strength of fight capacity increases as the EggNumber increases in a range0to400. and it can reach the greatest distance at400. From200to400, Potatobeetle has strong capable of fight, and the distance decreases with the egg number declines.. Daily eggnumber is one of important factor to affect flight capacity;, about21.0%of the female adults lay20to60eggs and have high flight capacity,but more than64.7%of the female adults are at spawning interval or laymuch better than60, the flight capacity of them is weak.3、 Discussion of Potato beetle adult development time and flight capacity: For the first generation,both female and male do not have the flight capacity in1to3days after unearth.. In5days, they beginhave the capacity to fly, but with limited time and distance, In9days, the indicators of flight capacity areimproved to the the maximum value including flight time, distance and speed. Comparing the flight abilitybetween female and male adult, during5-13days, the flight distance of female is significantly longer thanmales’, after13days the gap between female and male is becoming lower and lower, untill15days thedifference was no longer significant.In summary, the studies shown that Colorado Potato Beetle has the flight capacity only when ovarydeveloped to a certain stage,the development of ovary and flight organs of the potato beetle havesynchronization, maybe Colorado Potato Beetles have no typical flight-ovary conjugate.The fecundity ofColorado Potato Beetles with mature ovaries also has effect to the flight capacity,only those with suitablefecundity have the ability to a long-distance flight. For the first generation,the flight capacityof female ismuch stronger than the males’.
