Turf is a very important part of urban green space system, with aesthetic and entertainment function, it can help keep balance between carbon and oxygen. With the development of cities, more and more turf was planted in the cities, its ecological function appears very important. The study researched on turfgrasses root activity and chlorophyll content under different mowing frequency, and measured the soil respiration during from July to September by using Li-6400. Also it discussed the microbial activity, moisture and organic content in thatch and soil. The results should help to know the dynamic changes rules of turf soil respiration and give advices to turf management in the future.1. The study showed that mowing can promote the turfgrass root activity. The main results as follows:once two week> once a week>control.2. Mowing effected turfgrass chlorophyll contents. The turfgrass chlorophyll content trends to increase under the three mowing treatments:once two week> mowing once a week> unmowing.3. Mowing can control weeds such White Clover (Trifolium repens), Chickweed (Stellaria media (Linn.)Cyr.) and Herba Alternantherae(Alternanthera philoxeroides(Mart.)Griseb) obviously, but it doesn’t control the creeping broadleaf. Mowing would accelerate to spread rust disease.4. The daily dynamic change of respiration rate was high in day and low in night, showed a clear single peak curve. The variation charge rate ranged was2.23~7.73μmol·m-2·s-1, the peak appears at14:00-16:00pm, and the lowest is at8:00am in July. The variation range of root respiration rate was2.4-8.38μmol·m-2·s-1, the peak appears at12:00~14:00, and the lowest is at6:00am in August. The variation range of root respiration rate was1.77~7.44μmol·m-2·s-1, the peak appears at12:00-14:00, and the lowest was around at8:00am in September.5. Soil temperature has a significant correlation with soil respiration, especial in5cm depth. The determination coefficient was0.878, fitted equation was R=3.9076e0.0118T, the temperature coefficient (Q10) was1.09in July. The determination coefficient was0.663, fitted equation was R=3.1069e0.0384T, the temperature coefficient (Q10) was1.43in August._The determination coefficient was0.794, fitted equation is R=3.1940e0.0227T, the temperature coefficient (Q10) was1.22in September.6. The measure of aeration can increase microbial activity of thatch and soil in a short period, which is related with aeration density.7. It has a bigger effect on moisture than organic content in the microbial activity. The thatch moisture is more closely related with microbial activity than soil moisture. The determinate coefficient of thatch moisture is0.9366, but soil moisture is0.299.
