With the concentration of global atmospheric CO2, the enhanced greenhouse effect, the frequent occurrence of extreme weather, bringing great harm to the global ecological system and human’s life, having been a serious threat to the sustainable development of human survival and social economy, carbon sequestration becomes the academic focus. While the forest is the main part of terrestrial ecosystem and has a huge missing carbon sink especially in the northern hemisphere, but the size and distribution of the forest carbon pool is a big uncertainty. Karst area as one of the most fragile ecological areas, the environmental function of the vegetation covered on it is great, but the research about it is insufficient at present.This thesis selects a typical karst county-Youyang County as the study area, where67.5%is covered by carbonate rock, the forest vegetation on it is an important part of Chongqing even the southwest forest By means of the3s technology, using the ArcGIS9.3operating platform,on the basic data of SPOTS-5remote sensing satellite images(2011),the topographic map(1:10000), the forestry investigation data(2002), through visual interpretation and survey outdoor,this paper obtains forest distribution diagram(2011),. On the basis of the field investigation using SPSS17.0by various function fitting, the paper determines a model between biomass and accumulation on each species in Youyang county. Then this paper researches the spatial distribution characteristics and dynamic changes in recent10years about the carbon storage and density of forest vegetation in Youyang County, explores suit forest management measures to regional conditions in Youyang County.The results show:the forest vegetation in Youyang County over the past10years has a carbon sink function, especially the natural forest; the masson pine,cedar and fir have the best advantage in the total amount species; in all age groups, the carbon sink of young forest vegetation has the biggest contribution. Which means that with the development of the plantation and the growth of young forest, the carbon storage and density of forest in Youyang County have growth potential. In the spatial distribution characteristics, the auther found the difference of carbon storage and density in different partition is mainly caused by the various degrees of human activities, where the impact of human activities is huge the carbon density is small,where the destroy small the density will big. After contrasts the differences on carbon density between Youyang county and other non karst counties, this paper analyses some reasons caused the differences. Finally, according to the various situations this thesis puts forward suggestions on the forest development in Youyang County.The material is complete, the data is high precise, this results have a high reliability. The conversion formula between biomass and volume established in the karst district is for the first time, which has important significance and can provide basic data for research the forest vegetation carbon storage all over the country.
