High browning rate and winter wheat seeds, if haven been already pre-harvestsprouted(PHS), will have effect on their machining edible and processing qualityseriously, resulting in huge economic losses to agricultural production. Preventingwheat PHS to guarantee high yield and quality has is very important. Therefore,resistance to pre-harvest sprouting breeding is becomes extremely important. Toexplore the breeding method of wheat(T. aestivum L) resistance to PHS, low PPOactivity was selected for three consecutive generations in25varieties (or lines). ThePPO activity, phenols content, water absorption, browning rate, percentage ofsprouting, seed coat PPO activity, embryo PPO activity, endosperm PPO activity,seed coat phenols content, embryo phenols content and endosperm phenols content in100samples were determined. results showed that the number of selection cycles ofPPO was negatively correlated with parameters above. Whole PPO activity, waterabsorption, browning rate, percentage of sprouting, seed coat PPO activity, embryoPPO activity, endosperm PPO activity were positively correlated each other. thenumber of selection cycles of PPO with phenols content, seed coat phenols content,embryo phenols content, endosperm phenols content was No significant correlation.PPO activity and percentage of sprouting were positively correlated. After selectionfor low PPO activity, both PPO activity and percentage of sprouting reduced. Thatshowed that choosing low PPO activity is choosing flour whiteness and resistance toPHS indirectly, And at the same time the results proved a good choice effect.Because wheat breeders did not put PPO activity and phenolic content asbreeding objectives purified, in new varieties, PPO activity and phenol contentgenotype was not homozygous. Thus, this is effective to huge promotion area andpromising varieties to choose low PPO activity. the low PPO activity and flourwhiteness, PHS correlation. choose low PPO activity is choose flour whiteness andresistance to PHS indirectly.In this study, low PPO activity was continuous selected with enzymatic dye marker selection method in varieties (or lines), and was proved as a good choice.Hebei Normal University of Science and Technology breed low browning rate,resistance to PHS variety bao381, bao1878, bao1872bao1917and so on.The innovation of this study is to convert continuous enzymatic dye markerselection method to the Intuitive Morphological index form of complex biochemicalindicators. Only choosing non-stain or lighter stain seeds, without putting hugeresources, the operation method is simple and reliable and indeed, reduce browningrate and resistance to PHS breeding method.
