Chitosan had been waidely used as dressings in the field of biomedical, because of its biocompatibility, biodegradable, Film-forming, antibacterial resistance and other properties. However, The property of insoluble in water and increasing performance requirements of modern medical dressings limited Chitosan’s use. Therefore, in this paper, simple technics to synthesize water-soluble chitosan derivatives and prepare excellent performance of blending membranes with Alginic acid was investigated.(1) To obtain N-succinyl chitosan(NSCS) with good water solubility and low toxicity, synthesis process was improved. Substituted degree(DS), anti-oxidizing activity capacity, moisture-absorbtion ability and moisture-retention ability and of the product were measured and analyzed. The result showed that safer and more environmentally friendly NSCS with excellent water solubility could be synthesized from chitosan acidylated by succinic anhydride, in which pyridine did not be used. When the mass ratio of substrates was1:2, temparature was50℃and acidylating time was4h, water solubility of NSCS could reach9.70g/L, the degree of substitution was more than50%, the moisture-absorbtion ability, moisture-retention ability, anti-oxidizing activity capacity were all excellent. (2) NSCS/Alginic acid blending membranes were prepared based on Blending and crosslinking. The swelling ratio, water vapor transmittance, mechanical properties and other performances of blending membranes were measured and analysed. The result showed that when the concentration of NSCS and Sodium alginate (SA) solution were1%(wt) and3%(wt), drying time was16h at72℃, the characteristics of NSCS/SA membrane were excellent and there was no skin irritation. The NSCS/SA membrane had potential application value in pharmaceutical industry.
