Objective: To investigate the incidence of awareness during general anesthesia and toanalyze the risk factor in anesthetic practice and patient populations. Methods: Acroding to inclusion and exclusion criteria,1429cases of patients with generalanesthesia were enrolled between March2012to September in a prospective study in thegrade A class3hospital in Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps(XPCC).Patientswere interviewed postoperatively with improved Brice questionnaire survey. The structured5questions were:1) What is the last thing you remember before going tosleep?2) What is the first thing you remember when waking up?3) Do you rememberany thing between going to sleep and waking up?4) Did you dream duringyour procedure?5) What was the worst thing about your operation? Eachpatients was classified into categories as no awareness, possible awareness, and awareness. Ifpatients was classified into categories as possible awareness and awareness,to be asked fordetails. Such as visual perception, auditory sense, pain, or dreaming etc. Results: Eleven patients (0.77%) definitely reported awareness, and39(2.73%)reportedpossible awareness in1429patients. Another24(1.68%)had a dream. Incidence ofintraoperative know of ethnic minorities was0.7%, and Han Nationality was0.8%. Twopatients were fully know the operation process.Eight of the11patients (72.7%) withawareness during operation had auditory perceptions,5(45.5%) felt pain,5(45.5%) wereunable to move and5(45.5%) felt fear during operation. Painless intraoperative awareness ofpatients accounted for55.5%. Binary logistic regression analysis showed that the use ofmidazolam and the time of anesthesia were influencing factors.Other factors were not relatedwith the intraoperative awareness, they were gender, age, different nationality,BMI,ASA, typeof anesthesia, types of surgery, and hemodynamic fluctuations. Conclusion: The rate of awareness in XPCC was0.77%. It was similar to domesticintraoperative awareness level. Midazolam and anesthesia time were known in theinfluencing factors. Preoperative application of midazolam is the protective factors ofintraoperative...
