Objective:To explore anxious and depressive state of patients with hemifacial spasm.Methods:200patients with hemifacial spasm attending at the botulinum clinic of Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital were measured by SAS and SDS, another200healthy people as the control group was evaluated by the similar questionnaire, in order to compare the difference between the two groups in anxious and depressive state.Results:There is4%patients have anxious symptom, and9.5%patients have depressive symptom in the case group, but there is no people with anxious or depressive state in the control group (P<0.01).Compare to the control group,the case group scored much higher in the assessment of anxiety and depression (35.15±7.22VS28.90±3.61,38.15±9.57VS28.78±3.89); And the female patients scored much higher than male (36.48±7.32VS33.56±6.80,40.12±9.81VS35.78±8.75),(P<0.01). The longer of duration, the higher SAS/SDS scores did the patients have (37.60±7.89VS33.51±6.25,42.90±9.79VS34.98±8.00),and the severe patients scored much higher than mild-moderate patients (36.71±7.16VS33.67±7.10,39.55±9.77VS36.64±9.15),(P<0.05)Conclusion:Patients with hemifacial spasm have anxiety and depression, especially in female patients, which is related to duration and spasm degree.
