Background and Objective Ultraviolet-induced red fluorescence(UVRF) on facial skin of patients with acne produced by Propionibacterium acnes, which ingredients were porphyrin derivatives. In recent years, some authors have questioned in the presence of the isolation and culture of the region Propionibacterium acnes rate. UVRF was no correlation with the former and proportional to the amount of facial sebaceous secretion, suggesting that UVRF on facial skin of patients with acne was not only by Propionibacterium acnes, it may be also associated with the secretion of sebum.Methods(1)Skin analysis system was used to obtain UV images of facial skins of74acne patients and69seborrheic dermatitis patients and68healthy individuals, and the detection rate of red fluorescence was calculated.(2) Squeeze to extract the sebaceous secretions containing UVRF in the facial skin in the facial skin. Using spectrometer and the308nm excimer laser as an excitation light source to measure the signal of the fluorescence spectrum of UVRF and compare with Protoporphyrin IX.(3) Using HPLC-MS analysis technology,6cases of acne vulgaris and3cases of patients with seborrheic dermatitis containing UVRF in the sebaceous secretions were detected and analyzed.Results(1) The detection rates was significance difference in acne patients and seborrheic dermatitis patients compared with healthy individuals(χ2=39.064, P<0.005; χ2=27.512, P<0.005, respectively).Additionally, it was significantly higher in T zone, where sebum secretion is high, than in U zone, where sebum secretion is lower (χ2=21.806, P<0.005;χ2=19.066, P<0.0O5;χ2=15.429, P<0.005,respectively).(2) The fluorescence spectra’s characteristic peak of UVRF in10patients was at 680nm. Protoporphyrin IX was at688nm and more gentle and generous than UVRF’s characteristic peak.(3) One patient’s specimens detected PpIX. Remaining patient specimens were not obtained satisfied total ion current of separation. Specimens were mixture and low levels of material, also no mass-to-charge ratio of peak of porphyrin and analogue. Conclusions UVRF exists in both seborrheic dermatitis patients and healthy individuals in which not only acne patients. The detection rate of the two diseases were significance difference compared with healthy individuals. UVRF on the facial skin of acne patients and seborrheic dermatitis patients may be also related to sebum secretion. UVRF had similar spectral characteristics compared with Protoporphyrin IX, but was not the same species. PpIX could only partially explain UVRF.
