Objective:To evaluate the effects of Omega-3fatty acids on regulating of immunity and inflammatory response on the patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), also discuss the influence on improving the gas exchange effects and these patients’prognosis. Methods:Patients (n=56) with ARDS treated at our hospital’s Department of ICU between September2011and August2012were randomly divided into a control group (n=28) and study group (n=28), and the physiology and chronic health evaluation (APACHE II) have also been respectively assessd. In addition to standard treatment protocols administered to all, the study group received supplementation with co-3polyunsaturated fatty acids100ml per day. Two groups of patients were extracted peripheral venous blood in the time of nutritional support before1days and third days, seventh days after nutrition for ascertaining CD4/CD8ratios to assess immune function, and obtaining levels of inflammatory response indicators C-reactive protein and white blood cell count. Liver function, renal function, blood coagulation parameters, arterial partial pressure of oxygen, and oxygenation index were monitored. Incidence of multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS), duration of ICU stay, total length of hospital stay and mortality rates were compared. Results:Immune function, inflammatory response levels, and gas exchange effects were significantly different for the two groups (P<0.01and P<0.05, respectively). The inflammatory response in the study group was significantly decreased, also immune function and gas exchange effects were improved. Better prognosis resulted for the study group than the control group. Conclusion:Supplementation with ω-3polyunsaturated fatty acids can effectively regulate the inflammatory response and immune function and improve the gas exchange effects in patients with ARDS, possibly improving prognosis.
