Objective: We want to investigate the performance of contrast-enhancedultrasound(CEU) in evaluating the response of neoadjuvant chemotherapy(NAC) in breastcancer patients. In addition, to compare the effect of physical examination, color dopplerultrasound, CEU and magnetic resonance perfusion-weighted imaging(PWI) on thissubject. Methods:This study included27breast cancer patients who received NAC andsurgical treatment between November2011and March2013. All of them were evaluated byphysical examination, color doppler ultrasound and CEU before and after NAC.13patientsamong them also have PWI.Results:Use pathologic response grade as a standard, CEU has better performance inevaluating the response of NAC than physical examination and color doppler ultrasound.CEU and PWI have their own advantages. The tumor size measured by CEU is larger thanthose surveyed by color doppler ultrasound. After NAC, the reduction of tumor’s bloodperfusion can be detected by time-intensity curve, shown as peak intensity(PI) and areaunder curve(AUC) decrease(P<0.05). Relative increase time(lesions and normal tissuestime ratio, from rising to peak) may has great clinical value in predicting the effectivenessof NAC.Conclusion:CEU is more valuable in evaluating the response of NAC than physicalexamination and color doppler ultrasound. Compare with PWI, they have their own strongpoints. CEU can reflect the effect of NAC, and the parameters may have some value inpredicting the response of NAC.
