Vitamin A (VA) is a kind of essential micronutrient of multifunction,itplays an important physiological effects in the vision, cell differentiation,growth and devel-opment and immune system of the human body. VitaminA deficiency (VAD)was confirmed as one of the world’s four major nutritional deficiency dise-ases by the World Health Organization,which children and the pregnant women are susceptible toit. In the period of embryonic de-velopment, vitamin A deficiency on pregnancy can affect babies’ normalgrowth, it can even cause congenital malformations of organ system. Recent studies found that VA and its active metabolites affect much in the differentiation, growth, maturity and the health of lung. It can also promote thedeveloppment of the respiratory pithelium, alveoli and pulmonary intersti-tium. The clinical study found that VAD during childhood can increase theincidence of lung infectious disease while VA adjuvant therapy can promote the disease rehabilitation.This paper explores the Progress of effect aboutvitamin A and its active metabolites lung development and disease.
