Objective:To compare the osteoprotegerin levels in the plasma ofadult growth hormone deficiency patients with healthy adult and analysethe relationship between osteoprotegerin and anthropometricmeasurements, glucose and lipid metabolism, blood pressure, free fatty acid, high sensitive C-reactive protein,interleukin-6and others. Methods:Toscreen adult growth hormone deficiency patients among suspected adultgrowth hormone deficiency patients through the method of insulintolerance test. The level of fasting plasma osteoprotegerin was measured byenzyme-linked immunosorbent assay in45cases of adult growth hormonedeficiency patients and40healthy adults who are gender, age-matched withadult growth hormone deficiency patients.Meanwhile, we measured fastingplasma glucose, fasting insulin level, lipid profile, high sensitive C-reactiveprotein and interleukin-6and so on. Results:All the subjects who were joinin the insulin tolerance test completed the trial. The plasma osteoprotegerinlevels in adult growth hormone deficiency patients was significantly higher than that of control group [(176.83±61.21vs147.39±52.13) P<0.05]. Therewas significantly positive correlation(R=0.353,0.564,P<0.05) betweenosteoprotegerin and high sensitive C-reactive protein,interleukin-6.Therewas significantly negative correlation(R=-0.245,P<0.05)between plasmaosteoprotegerin and high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol.In a multiplestep-wise regression analysis, high sensitive C-reactive protein andinterleukin-6are independent factors related to plasma osteoprotegerin. Conclusion:This study shows that plasma osteoprotegerin in adult growthhormone deficiency patients is increased. Plasma osteoprotegerin iscorrelated with high sensitive C-reactive protein,interleukin-6. This studysuggests plasma osteoprotegerin maybe play an important role incardiovascular pathologies. |
