Objective: Systematic reviews of diagnostic value of the nuclearmatrix protein22(NMP22) and urine cytology for bladder cancer. Methods: Development of inclusion criteria, exclusion criteria andsearch strategy to retrieve relevant literature. Screening the literatureaccording to inclusion criteria and exclusion criteria. Quality evaluation ofthe screening and data extraction, using MetaDiSc1.4software for Metaanalysis. Results: In total,266relevant studies were searched, excluded256studies, and then10studies were included, with4895patients involved. Thepooled sensitivity and specificity of NMP22to detect bladder cancer were0.76(95%CI0.74to0.77),0.80(95%CI0.79to0.82), respectively. Thepooled sensitivity and specificity of urine cytology were0.36(95%CI0.34to0.38),0.94(95%CI0.93to0.95), respectively. The area under curve (AUC)for NMP22and urine cytology was0.8533and0.8628, and Q*index was0.7863and0.7934, respectively. Conclusions: For the diagnosis of bladder cancer, the sensitivity ofNMP22was higher than urine cytology, but the specificity was lower thanurine cytology. Overall diagnostic performance of NMP22was medium; itwas no significant difference with urine cytology. So, it can not replace urinecytology now.
