Objective To evaluate the diagnostic and therapeutic value of fiberoptic bronchoscopy(FB) in children with Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia(MPP)and atelectasis. Methods Clinical data and FB records were retrospectively analysed in106caseswith MPP and atelectasis from Aug.2010to Dec.2012in Anhui Provincial Children’sHospital. Results The positive rate of MP-DNA (86.8%,92/106) detected by bronchoalveolarlavage fluid (BALF) and the positive rate of MP-Ab-IgM in serum (64.2%,68/106). The positive result of bacterial culture of BALF was found in17cases (17.9%,17/95). During fiberoptic bronchoscopy detection, all patients showed obviouslybronchial mucosa congestive edema. We also checked out bronchial phlegm blocking in33cases(31.1%),bronchial mucosa longitudinal form plica in31cases (29.2%),lumeninflammatory stenosis in25cases (23.6%), mucosal ulcer in9cases (8.5%) andmucous nodular-like change in3cases (2.8%). Eighty eight of91cases treated withBAL were cured and improved after4weeks with the partial or complete re-expansionrate reaching to96.7%.Conclusions he positive rate of BALF MP-DNA detection technology for thediagnosis of MP infection is greater than that of serum MP-Ab-IgMexamination.Interventional therapy by FB can be more rapidly and effectively topromote the lung re-expansion and to improve the prognosis, and my be a promising method to diagnosis and to treat those children with MPP and atelectasis.
