To study the correlation between the expression of NMDA receptor, nNOS and pain in endometriosis and their significance. Discuss the possible mechanism of the endometriosis associated pain.Methods:30patients with confirmed diagnosis of deep infiltrating endometriosis by laparoscopy or laparotomy and pathology with or without pain were served in study group.15CINIII patients without or with mild pain that were diagnosed without endometriosis were enrolled as controls. NMDA receptor and nNOS in the uterosacral ligament and eutopic endometrium of both two groups were determined by immunohistochemistry.Results:(1) In both uterosacral ligament and eutopic endometrium of the patients with endometriosis, the expression of NMDA receptor and nNOS varies with the degrees of pain and the difference was significant (P<0.05). In addition, their expression intensity was positively associated with the score of pain (P<0.05).(2) The expression of NMDA receptor showed a statistically difference between the endometriosis and non-endometriosis with the same degree of pain in both uterosacral ligament and eutopic endometrium (P<0.05). But the expression of nNOS has no statistical differences (P>0.05).(3) The expression of NMDA receptor and nNOS has a positive correlation in the uterosacral ligament of patients with endometriosis (P<0.05).But there was a negative result in eutopic endometrium (P>0.05).Conclusion:(1) The expression of NMDA receptor and nNOS are both associated with pain and the difference of which may be a reason for the difference of pain in endometriosis.(2) The increase of the expression of NMDA receptor may be involved in the pathogenesis of endometriosis.
