| Purpose This study aims at treating the middle and late period of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with supplementing Qi and nourishing Yin medicine combined with chemotherapy based on basic TCM theory and clinical experience, analyzes its influence on the immune function, quality of life and clinical symptoms, lifetime and tumor progression, etc. of middle and late period of NSCLC patients, and observes the safety during the process of TCM medicine treatment, as well as further studying the significance of supplementing Qi and nourishing Yin medicine in treating middle and late period of NSCLC patients.Method The object of this study is45cases of NSCLC patients. The patients’ condition is stage ⅢB to stage Ⅳ. They are randomly divided into the observation group and the control group, namely supplementing Qi and nourishing Yin medicine combined with chemotherapy group and pure chemotherapy group. From the time before treatment till the end of the second cycle and the fourth cycle of treatment, evaluate such key indexes as the immune function, life quality score, KPS score and weight change and so on before and after treatment by the statistical method, and meanwhile observe the safety of patients during the treatment process and the changes in tumor disease conditions like tumor markers, lesion size and so on before and after treatment.Result After two cycles of treatment, CD4+, CD4+/CD8+level of the control group decreases while CD3+, CD4+, CD4+/CD8+level of the observation group increases compared with that before treatment. Through comparisons between the two groups, CD4+, CD4+/CD8+level of the observation group is higher than that of the control group; the immunoglobulin level of the observation group is higher than that of the control group. This shows that supplementing Qi and nourishing Yin medicine combined with chemotherapy can improve the CD3+, CD4+T lymphocyte percentage, CD4+/CD8+ratio and stable immunoglobulin level of patients, thus improving the immune function of patients. After4cycles of treatment, the score of5functional statuses (role, emotional, social, cognitive and physical) and the overall health status of patients in the observation group has increased significantly compared with that before treatment; the score of systemic symptoms (fatigue, pain, nausea and vomiting) and specific symptoms related to lung cancer (shortness of breath, cough, hemoptysis) has decreased compared with that before treatment; the score of symptoms related to lung cancer treatment (insomnia, loss of appetite, constipation, diarrhea) has also decreased compared with that before treatment; the score of symptom subscale meter total scores decreases. All of these suggest that the overall clinical symptoms of patients in the observation group have been reduced after treatment while the overall clinical symptoms of patients in the control group have been increased compared with the previous symptoms. After4cycles of treatment, KPS score and the stability rate of weight change of patients in the observation group are higher than those of the control group, which shows that supplementing Qi and nourishing Yin medicine combined with chemotherapy can stabilize the KPS score and weigh of patients and can improve life quality. After2cycles of treatment, the difference between the evil tumor markers like CEA, NSE, CYFRA21-1and treatment efficiency of patients in the two groups before and after treatment has no statistical significance. After2cycles of treatment, gastrointestinal reactions and leukocytopenia of the two groups have statistical significance, which indicates that supplementing Qi and nourishing Yin medicine combined with chemotherapy can reduce toxicity of chemotherapy. Conclusion Supplementing Qi and nourishing Yin medicine combined with chemotherapy can improve the immune function, quality of life and clinical symptoms of patients, stabilize tumor markers and tumor size and reduce the side effects of chemotherapy on human body with good safety in the treatment process. Supplementing Qi and nourishing Yin has important significance in treating middle and late period of lung cancer patients, providing ideas for the attenuated efficiency treatment of NSCLC chemotherapy. |
