Objective:To investigate the prevalence of overweight and obesity of children in Wenzhou; and to study the relations between diret, physical activity and childhood obesity for developing prevention and intervention strategies.Methods:Multi-stage stratified cluster sampling was used to select the samples in the primary school in Wenzhou. Height and weight were measured to calculate BMI, children were diagnosed overweight or obesity according to the standard formulated by WGOC. Case control study was taken.369obesity of the primary school students were selected from the survey as cases, the controls were selected from other students of normal weight matched with age, sex and class. The children were surveyed with self-designed questionnaire. The food frequency and physical activity were included in the questionnaire. All data were analyzed by SPSS17.0software and Epidata3.0, T-test, chi-square test and Logistic regression model were used in this research. Results:In growth and development state, the height of children aged6to12years raised5cm per year in Wenzhou, and it raised2cm of children aged12to13year. Boys’average height and weight were higher than girls’, the average height and weight of children in urban were higher than that of children in rural area. Overweight incidence was11.23%and obesity incidence was6.43%respectively; while they were12.92%and7.89%in boys and9.16%and4.62%in girls respectively. Except the overweight in13years old group, the overweight incidence and obesity incidence of boys were higher than that of girls in each age group, while urban children’s overweight incidence and obesity incidence were higher than rural children’s except6years old group. Taking more vegetables, milk and dairy products, and enough sleep (>8h/d) were the protective factors against obesity, while lack of physical activity (<45min/d), and sedentary behavior (>2h/d) were the risk factors of overweight and obesity.Conclusions:1.The growth and development of primary school children in Wenzhou is in line with the general rule of physical development of children in China.2.Both the overweight incidence and obesity incidence of primary school students in Wenzhou are higher than the average level of Zhejiang province, while the boys’ incidences are higher than the girls’.3. Taking more vegetables, consuming enough milk and dairy products, longer sleep duration are the protective factors against obesity, however, little physical activity and sedentary life are risk factors of obesity.
