Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the world’s largest killers of human health, since these disorders lead to about17million deaths per year. Their pathological mechanisms are very complicated, which often refer to many complex processes, such as inflammation, apoptosis, lipid metabolism and gene mutation. Drug combination is a kind of remedial model which using several active ingredients together according to the pharmaceutical effect. The characteristics of strong therapeutic effects, little side-effects and drug resistance in treating complex diseases such as:CVDs, cancers etc, which make it become the research focus recently. First, the similarities and the differences between the herbal ingredients and the western drugs were deeply explored based on target-based perspectives. Western drugs incline to regulate vascular smooth muscle contraction associated pathways and target few targets. While, Chinese herbal ingredients prefer to regulate signal transduction and immune system associated signaling pathways, apoptosis associated pathways, and the biological function of herbal ingredients’ targets is more complex than that of the westeren drugs’ targets, and the number of herbal ingredients’ targets is more than western drugs’, which make the Chinese herbal ingredients can regulate several disease associated pathways at the same time. In the second part, we collected89knowed anti-CVDs drug pairs, calculated several features from drugs’ physicochemical and drug targets’ properties; and constructed a predicted model. Among the predicted100drug pairs,22are knowed anti-CVDs drug pairs, and21are proved to have the combination effects based on literature directly or indirectly.
