Objective:To compare different treatments for the process of the pocket in performing cardiac pacemaker replacement in order to provide useful reference for individually selecting proper pocket procedure. Methods:During the period from Jan2007to Jan2013,a total of96patients were admitted to authors’hospital to receive permanent cardiac pacemaker replacement. The patients were randomly divided into traditional pocket group (n=50, mean age72±6.2years, pacemaker implantation time of8.3±2.6years,using traditional method) and new pocket group(n=46, mean age72±6.2years,8.7±2.2years of implantation time). The pocket process time, hospitalization days, incidence of pocket-shaped hematoma and incision infection, as well as the healing condition of the incision and patient satisfaction were recorded. The results were compared between the two groups. Results: Two weeks after the treatment, the incidence of new pocket-shaped hematoma in new pocket group was6.5%,which was much lowerer than that in traditional group (20%),the occurrence of infection existed between the two groups is4%vs0%, patient satisfaction is93.5%vs72%,and the difference was statistically significantly (P<0.05). No significant differences in the hospitalization days and in process time between the two groups (P>0.05). Six months after the treatment, the skin incision was well healed in all patients of both groups. Conclusion:Permanent pacemaker replacement surgery, removal of the original pocket is convenient and easy, no operative time was significantly longer, but the incidence of postoperative hematoma, pocket infection was lower and patient satisfaction significantly increased.
