Objective:The purpose of this study is to study and discuss the effects and possible mechanisms of Traditional Chinese Medicine prescription of Phlegm Hemostatic Prescription on rheumatoid arthritis of phlegm-stagnancy-type.Subjects and Methods:It was designed as randomized experiment with62rheumatoid arthritis patients included who were divided randomizely into two groups:Chinese medical study group (32cases) and control group (30cases).The patients in study group were treated by10mg Qw of methotrexate,5mg Qd of folic acid, increased methotrexate tablets2.5mg per week to15mg Qw, and200mg Bid of hydroxychloroquine sulfate. On the basis of conventional western medicine, the patients treated by Phlegm Hemostatic Prescription took oral medicine boiled in the traditional chinese drug store of the Hospital of Xiamen Traditional Chinese Medicine, once a pack, twice a day for3courses. The comparison group was treated by the Western medicine theropy program above. Before and after treatment, the clinical effects were observed;the changes of the patients’symptoms, physical signs and the levels of CRP, ESR,RF,VEGF,VEGFR-2and IL-17were contrasted as well as the standards of DAS28the general effective rate for Syndrome Patterns of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Observe the effectiveness and make statistics analysis processing.Take the laboratory data such as blood routine, urine routine, fecal routine and liver function as safety to examine whether Phlegm Hemostatic Prescription Therapy has side effects and to reduce the side effects of western medicine. Results:The total effective rate of the treatment group on the levels of DAS28was93.8%,and the total effective rate of the control group was83.4%, in which, there was significant difference between the two groups (P<0.05). After the treatment, the total curative effective value of treatment group is93.8%, comparing63.4%in control group (P<0.05). The concentration of serum VEGF,VEGFR-2and IL-17levels in the treatment group presented a significant difference between before and after the therapy(p<0.05), comparing serum only VEGF had a significant difference (P<0.05),VEGFR-2and IL-17levels of control group had no significant difference before and after treatment (P>0.05).Before and after treating, we observed CRP,ESR,and RF,the number of swelled joint, and the number of painful joint significantly different (P<0.01) in which the treatment group had obvious effects on reducing CRP,ESR,and RF,the number of swelled joint, and.the number of painful joint, significantely better than those in control group (P<0.05).The incidence rate of adverse effect was9.4%in treatment group and that was10%in control group, had no significant difference between them (P>0.05).Conclusions:Phlegm Hemostatic Prescription combined with conventional western medicine can further improve the clinical effects on the patients. It was also showed the effect on effectively improving theTCM Syndrome of the patients with rheumatoid arthritis of phlegm-stagnancy-type was also better than in those treated with conventional western medicine alone. And it was showed the effect on reducing the levels of serum VEGF,VEGFR-2,and IL-17in patients with rheumatoid arthritis in those treated with of Phlegm Hemostatic Prescription combined with conventional western medicine was better than in those treated with conventional western medicine alone. The therapy would improve symptoms and signs without toxic or side effect or any adverse reaction.
