Objective To analyze the epidemic characteristics and regularity of viralhepatitis in Guangxi from2004to2012, get hold of the epidemic trend so as toprovide a scientific basis for the development of prevention and controlstrategies in Guangxi. Methods The basic information of viral hepatitis cases and viral hepatitisoutbreak information in Guangxi during2004-2012were collected from the"China Information System For Diseases Control and Prevention". The casediagnosis was based on the2000edition of "Viral Hepatitis Prevention andTreatment Programs". Descriptive epidemiological methods were applied fordata analysis, Excel2010and SPSS16.0were applied for double entry, calculation and statistical processing of data. Results The incidence of viral hepatitis in Guangxi showed and increasingtrend, from81.82/100000in2004to127.64/100000in2012. The peak age was20to34years old and male-female ratio was2.24:1,while the cases were mainlyfarmers(57.35%). The incidence of hepatitis A declined distinctly (from4.56to1.56per one hundred thousand), but there were occasional school outbreaks, which influenced the peak age, presenting double-peak(7-19and≥50yeas ofage)or single peak (>60years old). The outbreaks were seasonal and peakmonth was in May, though there was regional difference. Hepatitis B accountedfor the largest share of viral hepatitis (74.62%-82.38%), with incidence rose by43.57%(from67.41/100000to96.78/100000). The peak age was25to29yearsold. The incidence at <20years old decreased year after year, remainedrelatively stable at20-24years old and rose at≥25years old, but there wereregional difference. The incidence of hepatitis C rose4.17times (from4.22/100000to21.81/100000). The peak age was at0,25-34and≥80years old,and there were a yearly increased trend and regional differences at the≥15yearsold. The incidence of hepatitis E rose8.1times (from0.30/100000to2.73/100000). The peak age fluctuated from60to84years old and the onsetpeak was in March. There were also difference between urban and rural areas.Conclutions The incidence of viral hepatitis showed an increasing trendfrom2004to2012in Guangxi. The rising types included hepatitis B, hepatitis Cand hepatitis E, with hepatitis E rose the largest, while the incidence of hepatitisA was falling. Immune strategy against hepatitis B was significantly effectivebut should still be the top priority in the viral hepatitis prevention and controlwork. The prevention and control of hepatitis A should target at key areas andpopulations. The incidence of hepatitis C and hepatitis E were higher in urbandistricts than rural areas, which is worth further study.
