ObjectiveTo compare the differences between foreign and Chinese students who areaware of AIDS and TB in Guangxi universities, regarding KAPs (knowledge,attitudes, and practices), in order to explore the education level of AIDS and TBamong Guangxi universities students. In addition, to inform participants(especially foreign students) about the knowledge of the two diseases throughthis research survey, and recommend ways to improve HIV and TB strategy tothe government.MethodsThe research data were collected using the standardized questionnaire andinterview method. Each participant from both Guangxi Medical University, andGuangxi University of the sample population was interviewed using thequestionnaire. The interviews were face to face, questionnaires were completedwithin a limited time.Results1. Questionnaire survey results(1) The total number of participants in the survey of both Chinese andforeign students were611in total100%. Students who participated in thisresearch survey were both males and females students, between the ages of17-34.Out of the611participants225were male amounting to37.0%while386 were female amounting to63.0%.(2) Participants were from different nations. Out of the611participants308amounting to50.4%were foreigners while303amounting to49.6%wereChinese from both Guangxi Medical University and Guangxi Universities aswell.(3) Level of Education, of participants from the survey. From the611participants56were Bachelor, amounting to9.2%and493were majoring inMBBS amounting to80.7%with a cumulative%of89.9which shows thehighest participants in this range were sophomore students, while58wereMasters amounting to9.5%and PHD were4amounting to7%.Grades weredivided into five groups as listed in the chart. Out of the611participants110were freshmen,18.0%, while253were Sophomore,41.4%Juniors were118,19.3%, and Seniors were117,19.1%and To be Bachelor those were12,2.0percent.(4) Students who participated in this research major in different field ofstudy such as Agriculture, Business Administration, Bachelor of Arts, Biology,Biotechnology, Chinese, MBBS, Stomatology, Public Health, PreventiveMedicine, Obstetrics,Microbiology,Pharmacology, Pediatrics, Photography,Nursing, Management, Physical Education, Computer Science, and Law. Withmore than450students out of the611majoring in MBBS and the rest w dividedbetween other majors.2. AIDS and TB KAPS survey results(1) More Chinese who participated in the survey were moreknowledgeable, with regards to HIV/AIDS and MTB than foreigners were(P<0.05).(2) There is no significant difference between the two groups withregards good and bad attitude regarding the attitudes to HIV/AIDS and TB (P>0.05).(3) There is no significant difference between the two groups in high riskpractice to HIV/AIDS (P>0.05), whereas Chinese were higher than foreignerswere in low risk practice (P<0.05). More Chinese were aware of the ChineseGovernment measures to prevent HIV/AIDS and TB than foreigners were aware(P<0.05).ConclusionThe findings of this study revealed that the overall study participants hadlow knowledge about HIV/AIDS and MTB. We need to create more awarenessabout the disease to the general population and its environs. It is recommendedthat the university shall be in collaboration with the department of infectiousdisease and control conduct health education among students on measures toreduce or prevent HIV/AIDS and MTB. Meanwhile, the foreign student, as thekey intervention group, shall be propagated the preventive measures of AIDSand TB by Chinese government thus it can reduce the risk of infection inhigh-risk behaviors.
