This thesis is written to research the Taiwanese writer Shi Shuqing and her diaspora theme. Since she entered into the literacy world, she had created many novels with different styles. In her early ages, she wrote the modernist works like Narrative Lukan and some novels concerning the marriages of the overseas students when she studied abroad. In the later period, she wrote the Hong Kong stories which were all set in Hong Kong to examine the prosperous city with the angle of a guest. Her most recent works were The Trilogy Of Taiwan and The Trilogy of Hong Kong, which were all focused on the history. It is easy for us to detect that all her works of different times share the same hidden shadow of a diaspora theme. The reasons to her diaspora theme are the following. First of all, Shi herself moved frequently among America, Hong Kong and Taiwan. During these moves, she had accumulated so abundant experiences of diaspora that she had greater willingness to pay more attention to her racial identity and original hometown. This willingness in her works exactly reflects the diaspora that I want to research in this paper. Secondly, the diaspora was linked to special geographical and historic environments of Taiwan. These two environments had formed the characteristics of the literature of Taiwan and the growing process of Shi Shuqing. The introduction part will not only clarify her novels and the research findings on her works but will also present the properties and the influences of the social backgrounds and literacy current in her growth ages. The body part consists of three chapters:In Chapter One her creation will be devided into several periods and separately introduce the typical works that contain the diaspora theme. Besides, some typical images will be pointed out to ensure the macroscopic grasp of the diaspora theme in her works. In Chapter Two, the texts will be analyzed, especially the roles who experienced diaspora in her novels. We will see how these roles delt with their identity crisis arising form their diaspora. In Chapter Three, we will examine her struggles for identity and native homes through analyzing her travel novels and proses.
