Since the establishment of the diplomatic relations between China and Korea in1992, Korean government and many Koreans pay increasing attention to Chinese learning, which resulted in the increase of the Chinese state and the number of students going to China to study. As a result, the research about Chinese study and successful Chinese learners is a necessity. However, up to now, there are only a few theses which focus on Korean successful Chinese learners. As a Korean who has studied Chinese for many years and a participant for "Chinese Bridge", I hope I can make contribution to this field.The research in this thesis consists of two parts:firstly, a quantitative research about16Korean successful Chinese learners through a investigation; secondly, a qualitative research about4Korean successful Chinese learners though interviews.In the first part, I mainly discuss the following three questions:firstly, the overall preference of Korean successful Chinese learners to learning strategies; secondly, the difference of my thesis from that of Jiang Xin (2000) and Wu Yongyi (2007) and its reasons; thirdly, the preference of Korean successful Chinese learners to specific learning strategies and its reasons. After the summary and analysis of the investigation, we draw the following conclusions:(1) The most commonly used Chinese learning strategies by Korean successful Chinese learners are compensatory strategy and social strategy; the secondly ones are cognitive strategy and meta-cognitive strategy; the least ones are emotional strategy and memory strategy. There is no difference between male usage and female usage.(2) After we compare our result with Wu Yongyi (2007), we find that the learning environment will have a big influence on learners’choice of learning strategies, but their choice is irrelevant to nationalities.(3) After we compare our result with Jiang Xin (2000), we find that the difference between successful Chinese learners and ordinary Chinese learners is not their choice on learning strategy, but on the frequency of using these strategies.In the second part, we mainly discuss the following three questions:firstly, the internal causes of the choice of learning strategies of Korean successful Chinese learners; secondly, the difference of the four successful learners from other ones and its reasons; thirdly, the effective learning strategies and their feasibility. After the interviews, we draw the following four conclusions:(1) Korean successful Chinese learners use different learning strategies very frequently;(2) Environment has a great influence on the usage of learning strategies.(3) There is a difference between learners and acquirers in the usage of learning strategies.(4) The usage of learning strategies is affected by different personalities.
