This paper intends to discuss the relations between Wuthering Heights and the gothictraditions based on the texts of several classic gothic fictions and points out the inheritanceand transcendence in Wuthering Heights. The first chapter discusses the origin and artisticfeatures of the gothic fictions and retrospects the gothic complex of Emily’s personalexperience and her era, showing that the author fits the genre of the Gothic fictions andWuthering Heights’s gothic charm beyond the age. Second chapter specifically addressesthe characters shaping, the environment portraying, the plot and the supernatural scenesetting, narrative and theme in inheritance to the traditions of gothic fictions, and exploreshow the author deepens the Gothic traditions in succession. Chapter three explores thetranscendence of gothic traditions in Wuthering Heights, mainly from the source of terror,theme, narrative, symbolic imagery and female perspective in-depth thinking, in order tosee how Emily transcends that of gothic traditions in the novel to make innovations andbreakthroughs, and make the traditional literary genre of the Gothic novel full of new vigorand vitality, thus lay the important position in Gothic literature.
