Considerations On The Causes Of The Grander And Decadence Of Sparta

When we strive to research the characteristics of Greek civilization about its history and interaction deeply, Sparta’s statue from expand to summit, then to decline is very helpful to us. Even though Greek world is consist of much polis which count by the hundreds, but scramble for supremacy between Sparta and Athens is occupied a long time. And the former monopolize authority in the end.The history of Sparta is focused in all ages include the classic period.This paper maily includes three parts as follow:The first chapter is an analysis of the reasons why Sparta selected a conservative and traditional way to expand on land by itself and his stable alliance,by introducing its political system,military system, educational system and the historical process which from expansion to hegemony.The second chapter introduces the historical process of which Sparta from expand to monopolize the Greek world by using the Peloponnesian League, then analyze the reasons why Sparta can defeat Athens.The third chapter discusses the decline of performance of Sparta,and try to explain the reasons of decline and fall of Sparta.It must be related to many elements.And the principle of autonomy of polis lead to the failure of Sparta hegemony.In a word, if we want to explain why Sparta rise and fall just in its own reasons are not enough, the circumstances of whole Greek poleis system is one of Janus’faces to know.
