Gong Xian, one of the most outstanding master painter of Chinese painting in theMing and Qing Dynasties, he created a unique plot ink painting style of deep melancholyand delicate facial. Gong Xian is also an eminent poet whose poetry style is lofty andfrosty. Consentrated on poems, he was absorbed in the middle and late Tang Dynasty, heowned very rustic and creative spirit, never pretending to take grandstanding breathtakingpen, this is precisely the pursuit of achieving the same as the art of his paintings. Thisarticle is based on the study of basic problems including Gong Xian’s lifetime and socialintercourse to analysis Gong Xian’s mental state of surviving adherent, while byresearching Gong Xian’s poetry to explore Gong Xian’s poetic style and its causes, andultimately explore the contact of the poetry and painting style.This paper is divided into three chapters. First chapter inspects GongXian’s life andsocial intercourse and mental state of surviving adherent. Investigating Gong Xian’s lifeand friends, not only to learn more about his upbringing and life course, but also lay a solidfoundation for the study of Gong Xian’s Poetic Concept of adherent. By studying GongXian’s mentality, you can discern his inner state in the face of the reality of the dynastychanging, and the influence of state of mind on his poetry and painting. The second chapterdiscusses the poetic themes and poetic style of Gong Xian and its causes. By analyzing theclassified theme of Gong Xian’s poems,we can achieve a comprehensive understanding ofhis poems and reveal its poetic language style and artistic features. Combined withhistorical background, family experiences, political beliefs, sense of character and literaryaccomplishment multifaceted to analysis the causes of his poems, helping us more fullyunderstand the man and his poetries. The third chapter studies the relevance of GongXian’s poetry and painting style. His poems on painting was highly considerable, poemsand paintings complemented each other which were totally natural. By parsing theembodiment of Gong Xian’s painting theory in poems on painting, we can examine theinfluence of the painting style on the poetry style. Strengthening the study of GongXian’s case, we can deeply explore the way of the late MingDynasty adherents to realize their own values, and describe the true face of this special historical groupmore accurately.
