Michael Polanyi is an outstanding physical chemist and great philosopher inphilosophy of science. His philosophic thinking of science is broad and profound. Themost famous of his creation is the theory of tacit knowledge and humanistic viewsabout science. That his subversion of objective notions about science leads he regardsscience as the activities of human being, and to a new perspective on science, all thoselead to transcend the objective notions about science, and makes science possesses anintegrative image.The thesis consists of four chapters. The first chapter is an introduction whichincludes the background and significance of choosing the topic, the researchachievement on Polanyi at home and abroad as well as the research method and thepossible creativity in the thesis. The second chapter recounts that thetheory of tacit knowledge is the philosophic theory base for the formation of Polanyi’shumanistic views of science. The theory of tacit knowledge is not only the core ofPolanyi’s cognitive theory, but also the theory base for the formation of hishumanistic views of science, he formed his theory of tacit knowledge on the base ofobjecting the absolutely objective views of science of positivism. It first introducesPolanyi’s severe criticism against the objective views of science of logic positivism,and then proves the natural transition of tacit knowledge from natural science tohuman studies via combination and dwell-in.The third chapter mainly analyzes theconnotation of Polanyi’s humanistic views of science, that’s the glory of humanity inscience, with the theory of tacit knowledge.science. Polanyi’s humanistic views ofscience are analyzed from four aspects: personal knowledge, the personal dimensionof science, objectivity of science and the nature of personal involvement. And thenthe connotation of Polanyi’s humanistic views of science——the humanistic natureof science, can be disclosed:The forth chapter is about the impact of Polanyi’s humanistic views of science.What’s science? How to define views of science? Polanyi put forward a new views ofscience——humanistic views of science from a unique perspective. There is greatdispute on Polanyi’s views of science in the whole world of scholarship, and hisview received critic from some philosophers, such as Popper and Kuhn. Polanyi’shumanistic views of science produce high effect to Human Study, to SKS, to Philosop hy of Science.Whether Polanyi’s humanistic views of science is correct, and what on earth are the right views of science? Views of science without respect to humanity is notcomplete, but humanity apart, there should be other rich connotation in science.Therefore, we have to consider humanistic views of science in an open anddeveloping way.
