The Evolution Of Military Image In Mass Culture Context

Military literature，regarding as an important literature category, plays a crucial rolein literature owing to its certain subject and its spirit throughout the times. Military imageis counted as a footstone of military literature construction; it is the eulogizing object,and meanwhile, it is the main carrier of inspiring patriotism and heroism. The object ofstudy in this paper is military image in military literature with the background of massculture context. By tracking back the development and the evolution of military image,this paper analyzes its main features and general characteristics at various periods. Onthis account, this paper explores every reason of this development tendency, the effectand the influence on the development of military image by mass culture context.Furthermore, thinking and analysis of the value of the military image evolution andexisting flaws of military image are offered to be references for further development ofmilitary literature and further construction of military image. It provides worthyconsulting model and positive values for confused audiences in absence of spiritualballast and faith in mass culture context, and possesses positive effect and meaning.This paper has four sections. The purpose of this thesis, existing works andmethodologies of related research are discussed in the introduction. The selected subjectis summarized from a macroscopic view, and the influence on forming military image inChinese characteristic mass culture context is analyzed, besides, it is regarded asinnovative of this selected subject.The first section summarizes military literature in the mass culture context, definestheoretical concepts of mass culture and military literature, tracks back the historicaldevelopment and time division of military literature, and sums up features of militaryliterature in mass culture context.The second section reviews military image by two main thread time and feature, andconcludes its features during the process of evolution. By the time thread, everyoutstanding feature of three stages of the development of military literature is discussed.By the feature thread, new features and representative variation of military image in massculture context are particularly elaborated. Besides, the image-shaping features and types in military literature are systematically classified through several representative works.The third section considers military literature in mass culture, combining thebackground and feature of mass culture context, investigating mainly by mass aesthetictaste, mass media and mass expecting view. It analyzes reasons of the evolution ofmilitary image by the interaction of military literature and mentioned three investigatingelements.The fourth section reflects on military image, meanwhile, it affirms positive valuesof the evolution, also summarizes its deficiencies.
