“The ten philosophers of Xian Tong”, which is a loose poetic school of the late TangDynasty, Xu Tang,Zhang Qiao, and YuTanzhi, JuYan and Ren Tao, Wu Han, Zhang Pin,Zhou You, Zheng Gu, LiQiyuan, Wen Xian, as well as Li Chang Fu are members of thisschool.12of "The ten philosophers of Xian Tong” left twelve volumes of poetry, nowexisting832poems and8punctuates, of which the number of hermit poems is222,covering one fourth poems of “The ten philosophers of Xian Tong”. The hermit poetrystruggle with the late Tang Dynasty’s luxury and gaudy fashion of poetry by its fresh,bright, delicate and exquisite and gentle style, in addition, the poems have a positivemeaning. However, the research about “The ten philosophers of Xian Tong” is weak inour country; moreover, there is no monographs about their hermit poems, but only somethesis about the artistic characteristics of the poetry and other aspects such as thescholars mentality reflected from it.In this paper, the research about these poems of“The ten philosophers of Xian Tong” is the main part, and then carrying out asystematic study of the hermit poetry of “the ten philosopher”, trying to show theirspiritual world and art style in these hermit poems.There are three chapters in this paper. In the first chapter mainly discusses thespiritual world of “The ten philosophers of Xian Tong ", summing up their seclusionmotivation and seclusion mentality. The hermit motivations of “the ten philosophers ofXian Tong” roughly divided into two kinds: one is to adhere to the code of conduct;second, for the sake of physical and mental tranquility. There are roughly four aspectsabout their seclusion mentality: First, the psychology of shame and lost; second, theirindifferent to their ups and downs, in other words, their old age mentality; third,sentimental mood for can not face the realities; fourth, the balance between to be anofficial or not to be. Through discussing the two hermit motivations and four aspectsof their hermit mentality, the author aims at investigating their complicatedpsychological and emotional world. In the second chapter, the author summarizes the artcharacteristics of their hermit poems. The author discusses from the three points: thepursuit of art, artistic skills and artistic missing, concluding the two aspects of their pursuit of art: One is the elegant color and the pursuit of a fresh, bright artistically;second is delicate and exquisite style and the pursuit of delicate soften style, and thenthe author explores the artistic skills reflected from these three points: First, the poetscombines Buddhist thoughts with their poems; second, the language that they use isusually popular spoken and few allusions; third, the careful choice of the language.Then the author sums up the inadequacies about their hermit poetry, trying to make amore objective evaluation. The second chapter is compatible with the first chapter oftheir spiritual world, highlighting their hermit poems’ personalized art characteristics. Inthe third chapter, the author emphasizes on their hermit poems’ inheritance to previouspoetry from the perspective of vertical, and explores its impact on future generations,then analyzes the artistic value of their hermit poems deeply.
