An Introspective Research Report On The Translation Of Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland

This thesis is a retrospective research report which is based on the reflection of thetranslation of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland written by Lewis Carroll. It is a popularfairy tale which radiates in the world of children’s literature with the eternal lights.The thesis is divided into four chapters. The first chapter briefly introduces thebackground of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and the existing Chinese translations. Andthrough text analysis, I have known that pun is widely used in the source text. So I will putforward the feasibility of translating puns using Delabastita’s theory of pun translation andSkopostheorie based on the introduction of these theories. In Chapter Two, I briefly reviewthe translation process and summarize the difficulties in the translation as well as the waysof resolving those ones. Chapter Three focuses mainly on puns translation, includingidentification and related translation strategies of puns. Moreover, I also try to prove thepractical feasibility of Delabastita’s theory of puns translation in light of Skopostheorie bygiven example analyses one by one. In Chapter Four, I summarize the experience andachieve enlightenment from the translation process, and also point out the limitations ofthis research and propose related suggestions for future studies.
