"Home With Kids Ⅰ" Adaptation Research In Verbal Humor

Humor is an essential part of our lives, it caused a lot of the attention of scholars,these scholars mainly study the humor from the perspective of psychology, sociology,and rhetoric. In recent years, the humor was caused more and more attention of thepragmatic scientist, humor Pragmatic Approach has made certain achievements,however humor are closely linked with people’s cognitive, social and cultural factors,Therefore, many studies on humor still lack some comprehensive inquiry.As a kind of expression, the humor is also widely used in the creation of thesitcom humor. Home with kids is one of the situation comedy, it is very popular withpeople, and the characters of verbal humor is an important factor in its success. Andthe characters of verbal humor has its generation mechanism, the paper is on theAdaptation Theory which Verschuerent put forward in1999’s as it’s theoreticalsupport. This paper will study the humorous speech in home and kidsⅠ from theadaptation of the structure of language and communicative context conform, anddetailed analysis and expounds the humorous language of choice and strategy in theprocess of produce.In the adaption of language structure, it mainly analyzed the characters makelanguage choices and strategies in phonetics, vocabulary, grammar and discourse.On communicative context adaptation, in this chapter, the paper mainly analyzes thepeople make language choices in these three aspects to make physical, social andpsychological adaptation. After detailed analysis and inquiry, we found that theprocess of the characters in the play selecting the language in fact is a process oflanguage structure and the communicative context adaptation. And this adaption isalso the reason why the humor generated, this discovery is also fully illustratesAdaptation Theory’s strong explanatory power in language phenomenon.The thesis is divided into three parts. The first part is the introduction of the paper.The second part is the main part of the paper, which is divided into three chapters, thefirst chapter is a literature review, mainly reviewed the research on humor and comedy.Chapters II and III respectively by the structure of language and communicativecontext adaptation as the breakthrough point of the study of Home and Kids Ⅰ. Byusing Adaptation Theory to analysis the humorous language in Home and Kids Ⅰ,this paper can be treated as practical application of adaptation theory and Chinese corpus, at the same time, we also hope that this study could contributes to our sociallife and the study of language humor.
