This paper is to discuss the rhythm problems of current Chinese poetry in the perspective of linguistic and semiotic, and to do a general research on the poet’s exploration on the rhythm of Chinese poetry. Study of the rhythm of Chinese poetry, in essence, is a study on the characteristics of modern Chinese language. Firstly, this paper uses the current research results of Chinese rhythm, to redefine the concept and the elements of meter in Chinese Poetry, and to analyze the relationship of rhythm and metre in modern Chinese poetry; secondly, follows the significational process analysis of semiotic, to find out the nature of rhythm:re-symbolization; thirdly, according to the view of system and mechanism of meaning, analyses that, how would the rhythm and its elements take part in the process of poetry semantic generation on the principle of equivalence; finally, makes a combing and clarification to the issues of rhythm which arising in the process of the exploration of modern Chinese poetry.This paper consists of five parts:Chapter one reviews the present research situation of modern Chinese poetic meter, and points out the existing problems and shortcomings in the current studies. And briefly introduces the research methods and theory.Chapter two based on the carding of previous research, definitions the concept and connotation of meters, and its hierarchy and elements. And also, to cognize the nature of meter.Chapter three focuses on the mechanism of poetry semantic generation, and analyze how do meter and its specific elements participate in the process of poetry semantic generation.Chapter four studies the problems that exist in the exploration of modern Chinese poetry, and clarificates them according to the above conclusion.Chapter five draw a conclusion of the previous analysis.
