Although today we better known for Leibniz’s bold metaphysics and optimistictheodicy, his intellectual contributions extends well beyond the region of what is nowgenerally recognized as philosophy or theology. Remarkably in an era that knew thelikes of Galileo, Descartes, Huygens, Hooke and Newton, Leibniz stands out as one ofthe most important figures in the development of the Scientific Revolution. However, domestic and foreign historical philosophers have always been mostly interested inthe philosophy thoughts of Leibniz, but have paid little attention to his NaturalPhilosophy, an important role in his doctrine. Philosophy of physics is an importantintegral part of the Natural Philosophy of Leibniz. The study of physics philosophy ofLeibniz not only contributes to the overall understanding of the philosophy of Leibniz, but also owns important academic research value in terms of the history of scienceand technology, research of philosophy history. This paper will attempt to provide a broad overview of the central themes ofLeibniz’s philosophy of physics, as well as an introduction to some of the principalarguments and argumentative strategies he used to defend his positions. The paperwill also describe Leibniz’s critical value, contribution and its relations with his largerphilosophical system, and so on. Specifically, Chapter1is to clarify the reasons andthe dynamics and research methods of the topic. Chapter2overviews a variety offactors affecting the development of philosophy of Leibniz physics, and clarifieshistorical development of Leibniz’s physics. Chapter3first analyzes the concept ofsubstance of Leibniz, and criticize atomism and Cartesian corpuscularianism, basedon the principle of continuity, principle of plentitude and the relevant theory ofLabyrinth of the Continuum, and at the same time, he interprets the passive powers ofbodies. Secondly, the paper briefly introduces views of Dynamics, refutes Descartes’conservation principle and its physics basis, and distinguishes and proves the theoriesof active forces and Forces and Metaphysics. Thirdly, the paper elaborates howLeibniz is against Descartes’ laws of motion and proves his three of conservationprinciples, absolute motion or relative motion as well as. Finally, the paper elaboratesthe concept of Leibniz which is against the concept of Absolute Space and Time ofNewton. Chapter4firstly, it reveals the impacts of his thoughts on the philosophy ofhis own list and his later philosophy and physics; secondly, it reveals the impacts of Leibniz critical thought and critical spirit on reality; finally is to reveal the limitationsof Leibniz philosophy of physics.
