Tower Over The Land Of Art With Excellent Poetry And Paintings

This thesis studies the art of painting and calligraphy of Chen He, who is the deceased artist from Putian, Fujian.As a local artist, Chen He’s accomplishment of art is not well known. He unremittingly pursued the art of traditional Chinese painting through out his life and also achieved in poetry."Chen He can tower over the land of art with excellent poetry and paintings."①Said the Professor Huang Shouqi, a famous expert in yi-ology, who is also the former vice chancellor of Fujian Normal University.Chen’s paintings include a wide range of subject matters, involving landscape, figures, flowers and birds. He insisted on drawing calligraphy into paintings and combing poetry with pictures. This idea makes him integrate the poetry, calligraphy and painting, which helps him mastered in traditional skill of painting and calligraphy with profound literary cultivation. It does not only enrich the artistic conception in his picture, but also enhance his spiritual level in pursuing the art.Despite the achievement, there is no systematically researched article on him.This thesis is doing a primary study on Chen He from the aspects as his lifetime, experience in pursuing art, characteristics in painting and calligraphy, achievement in art and its impact.By objectively and generally evaluating Chen’s status in modern art phylogeny, this thesis indicates the enlightment of his traditional Chinese paintings which gives to the study later.
