The Review And Definition Of The Term "Islamic Music"

The study of Arabic and Islamic music is still in the beginning stage in Chinese academic world, and also the knowledge of their characteristics is not clear in general, which is reflected mainly in two issues:First of all, what is the concept of Arabic and Islamic music. Secondly, the debate of whether there is Islamic music and what type of the music it belongs to. This paper will analyzes and organizes those two issues from studying the history of Islamic music and analyzing its form and type horizontally and vertically. The result is:there are differences between Arabic music and Islamic music as well as relations. The Islamic music develops from Arabic music and breaks away from it gradually. It builds and becomes a huge Islamic music culture centre in the Orient countries, even in the world by merging with different religions, local conditions and cultures. Besides the Arab-Islamic music, South Asia-Islamic music, Southeast Asia-Islamic music, China-Islamic music all play a key role in term of being part of Islamic music. Although the types, styles and tunes of Islamic music differ from its countries where they belong to, they unfalteringly establish on the basis of the Islamic religion and share the same believes-to express the common preach doctrine and to deliver the sincerity and admiration to its culture.The globalization Islamic music contains various forms and diversified types,such as Arab-islamic music, islamic religious music, islamic secular music, islamic religious secular music, islamic religious ritual music and so on. This paper is going to examine these forms of Islamic music in detail, and segment the particular musical genres they contains, What is more, explain the reason of whether they could be classify into Islamic music forms. In order to analyze the reasons and essences of that the statement about Islam have no music,and define the Islamic music.
