This is a retrospective research report on the fundament of the translation of thefiction Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, Written by Herself by Harriet Jacobs, Theauthor is Harriet Jacobs herself, a African-American writer, who escaped from slaveryand became an abolitionist reformer and speaker.The first part introduces the source text, including background of the author and asummary of the source text. The second part overviews the translation process, wherethe writer reviews the difficulties in the translation and the methods of resolving thosedifficulties. The third part is the main part of the report, with example analyses givento explain the translation strategies adopted and to evaluate the translation effect. Itincludes five aspects:1The Adoption of Text Typology,2The Dealing ofUntranslatability,3The Use of Domesticating Strategy,4The Pursuit of Faithfulness,5The Consideration for Dialogues in Autobiographical Narrator. In the end, theconclusion part presents what the author has gained from the translation process andthat his goal in the future.
