In the history of Japanese literature, proletarian literature emerges as if dawnbreaks and rises with forceful momentum. Both ideology and literature creation andcreation methods are valuable treasures for Japanese modern literature, becoming animportant force and forever.Yoshiki Hayama with his working class background is among the first group ofwriters who matures with the trend of thought in proletarian art and literature. Hisworks are imbued with class consciousness and revolutionary ideas. During his wholelife, he creates nearly one hundred novels and essays, and one of his novel Peopleliving in the sea enjoys a high reputation in the circle of Japanese literature because ofits profound thoughts and artistic value. It is a monumental work for Japaneseproletarian literature and it affects many excellent proletarian writers like TakijiKobayashi、Denji Kuroshima. Even the famous capitalist writer Riyichi Yokomitsualso expresses his idea that Yoshiki Hayama is the only formidable writer inproletarian literature.Nowadays, lack of labor system, the working environment and the interests ofworking class are still problems which exist in both China and Japan. So proletarianliterature re-attracts people’s attention, which shows proletarian literature still hasvitality and practical significance one the one hand and also sounds the alarm for usone the other hand.
