There have been few translation works of animal stories in China so far, nor havethe studies of animal novel translating. But now both animal story translating and itsstudies are surging gradually, while an increasing number of animal story works ofEnglish literature are being introduced to China, widening Chinese readers’ horizon,especially Chinese children’s. Sir Charles George Douglas Roberts plays an importantrole in the history of English literature in Canada. His animal stories are undoutedlytreasures in the field of world children’s literature.This report is an analysis of Sir Charles George Douglas Roberts’ novel MoreKindred of the Wild and its translation process. Theoritically based on PeterNewmark’s "communicative translation", the author employes many cases to mainlyillustrate various translation principles and skills about the translation of animal story,as well as children’s literature, hoping to make a contribution to the study of children’sliterature translation in China. Meanwhile, this report also elaborates on the process ofthe whole translation project, and summaries a list of shortcomings integrated duringthe process, as well as the author’s in-depth reflection about them.
