Through the way of questionnaire, this paper inspects the refusal speech acts ofthe middle and senior students who are from west Asia and Middle East.This study consists of five chapters:The first chapter——Preface. This part introduces the reason of this topic,generalizes the achievements of refusal speech acts in Teaching Chinese As a SecondLanguage that our predecessors have made, and the introduction of the objective andsignificance of this paper.The second chapter——Related concepts of refusal strategy. This part mainlyintroduces the definition and characteristic of refusal speech act, the element ofrefusal speech act and classification of refusal strategy. The classification of refusalstrategy is important in this chapter, it is the basic issue of the analysis below.The third chapter——The survey and the expedition on strategies of refusalspeech act used by West Asia and Middle East students. This chapter mainlyintroduces the methods of corpus collection, design of the questionnaire and the basicinformation of the students. Then based on the result of questionnaire, we analyze theinitiating acts of refusing, social status and social distance, which affect the overseastudents’ and Chinese students’ refusal strategies. At last we analyze the reason of thedifference between oversea students and Chinese students, including culturaldifference, Chinese level and pragmatic knowledge, the current situation of theteaching and textbooks.The fourth chapter——The application of the refusal strategies in TeachingChinese As a Second Language. This part we Put forward the proposal to the teachingmethod and the textbooks.The fifth chapter——Conclusion. To summarize the main idea of this essay andpoint out the breakthroughs.
