A.S. Byatt is one of the most outstanding contemporary female writers in British literary world; Angels and Insects is A. S. Byatt’s second historical novel following the creation of Possession in the background of the Victoria times, which is the so-called "neo-Victorian" novel. What is different from her previous works is that:Byatt in Angel and Insects respectively describes the characteristics and personalities of males and females based on the gender differences, besides, and both male and female characters are no longer acting as opposites but the partners and collaborators. This paper is devoted to exploring the new relationship between men and women that Byatt created in Angels and Insects. This paper is divided into five chapters:Chapter One briefly introduces Byatt, her works and present researches and remarks on her works home and abroad. Chapter Two, Chapter Three and Chapter Four are the main body of the paper, respectively analyzing the transformation of female roles for new relationship, transformation of male roles for new relationship and the harmonious cooperation between males and females. Chapter Five is the conclusion.The conclusion of this paper is that:in Angels and Insects, Byatt raises an effective way to realize harmonious gender relationship-----both men and women make their best efforts to achieve equality and rational dialogue between each other, and in this way, men and women can find their right position and the way to keep harmony with the opposite sex, which is a new type of relationship between men and women.
