An astonishing phenomenon created by a small wizard named Harry Potter (from female author J.K.Rolling) swept around the world in the first decade of this century, which not only caught much of the public’s interest, but also became a hot topic in the literature critique context. In this article, by taking a psychoanalytic approach, we hope to earn a brand new understanding of this novel.First all those father figures in the novel will be sorted out and gone through a complete examination. Then a general inclination will be pointed out and labeled as the crisis of the leading character. Next, an psychoanalytic context shall be referred to and used as the key to solve all those questions mentioned before. After that a conclusion shall be come to, which says that the story of Harry Potter is really an account of a psychological process that everyone has to experience:the transit from paranoid-schizoid position to depressed position. At last, a brief scan about the author’s life will give us a huge push in the interpretation of the series itself.
