With the deepening of China’s reform and opening up and international exchangesincreasingly widespread, as an international language, English has become an importanttool for talents in21st century to carry out international exchanges and cooperation inthe world. As the basis of basic education, children English language teaching gets moreand more people’s attention and develops vigorously. Early childhood English educationhas been supported by new disciplines of psychology, linguistics and neurology. Thesetheories believe that the critical period of language learning and sensitive stage is earlychildhood and children have the advantages of mastering other languages other thantheir mother tongue. But whether early childhood English education has a decisiveimpact on language proficiency in English? Whether it is a good thing that Englisheducation in our country has been conducted in advance?So far, definitely confirming the value of kindergarten carrying out educationalprograms in English, negating the value of early childhood education in English andholding neutral attitude towards English education for young children are widelyrecognized views about the children English education. Domestic scholars’ study ofchildren English education is from three major research areas: the need for earlychildhood education in English, feasibility and practical situations. Foreign scholarsconduct depth study on purpose and meaning, strategies and methods of childhoodEnglish education mainly from three aspects of education, psychology and linguistics.But on the other hand, as a college English teacher, the author found that contemporarycollege student English learning is not satisfactory. What is the reason affecting theirEnglish learning it? How much impact does age factor have in the end? Does childrenEnglish learning bring essential difference between learners of English; the authorbelieves that this issue is worth exploring.This thesis explores whether children English learning experience has an impact ontheir level of English through the analysis of30college students CET achievement andoral test scores(respective15students having received English education and having notreceived are divided into the test group and the control group). In addition, the authoralso invited30students taking part in the test to participate in a questionnaire surveyand2of them to conduct a case study to better understand subjective factors affectingtheir English proficiency, so as to explore the problem whether English learning is thesooner the better. Methods used are test, questionnaires and case study, and SPSSsoftware is used for data analysis. This paper has a reference value for the necessity ofcurrent popular English education for children in the community.
