Erhu,as a subject of Chinese music, has created many classical works in a short spanof one hundred years through further, studying by some predecessors such as LiuTianhua, Hua Yanjun and so on.The famous contemporary national music composer,Mr.Liu Wenjin, who was in succession to predecessor’s folk techniques,at the same time,kept on exploring and binging forth new ideas, produced a lot of contemporaryrepresentative works. He made a lot of breakthroughs in its types of literature, themes,tonality, techniques and other aspects,which has brought great inspiration to the field of thecontemporary national music. All this has led the development of Erhu to a high stangdard.In this essay, using some existing academic research results for reference and addingsome accumulation of study in my own ordinary time, I have managed to study about someErhu works by Mr Liu Wenjin.The essay consists of four parts: The first part starts byanalyzing the background of creation and his root of creation power; The second parthas a summary of his creating and playing metheds; The third part has a further studyabout the musical forms of his three representative works such as CHANG CHENG SUIXIANG QU;XUE SHAN HUN SU; and RU LAI MENG——Fire and Land.Through thethree representative works, the characteristics of his creation and playing skills can beknown well by us.In the last part his creative concept of human first, appeal to both themore and the less cultured and his creation spirit of Chinese and Western combined, makeinnovations are well summarized. Mr. Liu Wenjin’s creation has pushed forward thedevelopment of Chinese national instrument Erhu, and it will provide us withvaluable experience, with which we can play more and better Erhu works in the future.
