| This paper is intended to discuss auto term translation criteria and procedures. Theexamples showed in this paper are taken from a translation project launched by theTranslation School of Xi’an International Studies University and huanqiu.com. Theproblems discussed are either from my personal experience in this translation practice orfrom the observation of the relevant translation tasks during the internship. This paper usesthe case study to discuss the issue of my concern through reference to the relevant theoriesof terminology, terminology translation, and technical terminology translation. Theprinciples formulated by ISO704:2009are used to identify, analyze and check auto termsin the process of data collection and analysis. Two typical problems are spotted anddiscussed in this paper: intransparency and inconsistency, and specific terminologytranslation strategies are proposed, which include four stages of performance: identifyingauto terms, analyzing auto terms, cross-checking auto terms, and creating interlinguisticcorrespondences. The overall goal of this paper is to build up a preliminary framework forauto term translation, which includes data processing, problem analysis, andproblem-solving procedures. This research is expected to help improve and assess thequality of translation in the auto industry. |
