There are more and more children be lived with grandparents, the problems related toskipped-generation families also emerge in endlessly. There are many similarities on mentaland behavior problems between learning disabilities students and children raised bygrandparents. And children raised by grandparents often have low academic achievement. Sothis article survey1077junior middle school students of5school in Zhejiang, Hubei andHenan three provinces by using wholly type sampling method. Using skipped-generationfamilies type questionnaire to investigate the past and present education situation of them, byAdolescent Self Report table and Learning Adjustment Scale to get to know students fromskipped-generation families mental and behavior problems, and exploring the relationshipbetween the mental and behavior problems and the academic achievement, hope to be able togive some advices to transformation of learning difficulties students and some enlightenmentto education of generation.This study found that:(1) The survey shows that72.7%of junior high school studentsonce or now is lived with grandparents. Skipped-generation education in junior middle schoolstudents still exist. The smaller the child’s age, the larger proportion is. In the pre-schoolstage, the rate is55.9%.(2) The students form skipped-generation families often have lowacademic achievement, accounted for42.4%. In other words, The students who academicachievement is relatively backward, have been or is still raised by grandparents. Especially inthe learning difficulties of students, and education is universal, and82.6%of learningdifficulties students come from skipped-generation families.(3) Skipped-generationaleducation has certain disadvantages, but the biggest influence on children education type oftransformation. The student’s mental and behavior problems is the lightest, who has beenraised by the grandparents from preschool to the junior middle school. Parental andgrandparents to take care of students in rotation make the students’ mental and behaviorproblems is the most serious. In forced-type skipped-generation families, student’s mental andbehavior problems are more serious, behavior problems level is significantly higher than thestudents in other types of skipped-generation family.(5) Student’s scores of learningadjustment is no significant difference in the various types of skipped-generation families. Butthere are significant differences between the generational education family students and the parental education family students on the level of learning adjustment norm transformation.The former account for40.0%on the last two levels, and the latter account for29.8%on thelast two levels.(6) Learning adjustment play in mediation role between mental and behaviorproblems and academic performance of skipped-generation families student. Their’s mentaland behavior problems are not only directly affect their academic performance, also affectacademic performance through learning adjustment. And the mediation effect accounted for54.8%of the total effect. We should put some attention on learning disabilities students’smental and behavior problems, and give more guidance on learning adaptability, improve thestudents’ learning adjustment level.
