Amy Tan is a Chinese American writer. Since she wrote The Joy Luck Club, she hasbeen on the rise in fame. Then in1991he wrote The Kitchen God’s Wife and TheHundred Secret Senses, also for her success. Ten years later, she wrote the fourth novelThe Bonesetter’s Daughter (2001). It went back to the theme of mother-daughterrelationship, which describes three women of different generations from the samefamily. They are from the different culture and the different social field. TheBonesetter’s Daughter makes a good explain the family. However, the domestic readershave not enough attention to this novel. Their research mainly focuses on The Joy LuckClub about the narrative skill, the Chinese identity and the cultural difference betweenChina and western countries. The western scholars study The Joy Luck Club in ideology,orientalism and female identity. So The Bonesetter’s Daughter needs the wholeresearches.The paper chooses The Bonesetter’s Daughter, to show the influence of socialtraditions and family life under the different regional culture and personal faith. Itanalyzes the women characters who live in the different family relationship.With the economy developing in the world, the trans-regional marriages becomemore and more common. We study the people from the different country how to livetogether, avoid the conflicts and collisions. And they seek the common characters thathave a strong practical significance.The family is a basic unit for the human reproduction. The stable and harmoniousfamily is helpful to the prosperity and development of the country. Based on theAmerican and Chinese family values, the article is a research in the different familymembers from the diverse backgrounds. They live together and exist somecontradictions. In the end, we find how to understand, be tolerant and keep the familystable jointly for the different family members.This paper is divided into six parts. The first one introduces the Chinese Americanwriter Amy Tan and The Bonesetter’s Daughter. The second part introduces the differentfamily relationship among the different members. The third part analyzes the differentfamily values between China and America. The fourth part analyzes the differentreligious beliefs affecting the family. The fifth part analyzes that the daughterunderstands the mother in the end due to the same feature between Confucianism andChristianity. And last, it makes the conclusion that the family members should respectdiverse religious culture and purse the common feature among the different religiouscultural traditions.
