Mental lexicon includes two levels of lexical representation and conceptualrepresentation. And based on these, there are three representation models about bilingualrepresentation system. They are word association model, concept mediation model andrevised hierarchical model. However, previous studies have found evidence to support thesetheories mainly through visual experimental paradigm. This study aims to discuss the twolanguage representation of non-proficient bilinguals through auditory channel. And thishypothesis has been supported by many experiments based on explicit memory tasks such astranslation and naming, which may lead to confuse the cognitive process of language. However, the implicit paradigm as the cross-language repetition priming could avoid thisshortage. Therefore, we conducted the present study to further test whether there would becross-language repetition priming effect for non-proficient bilinguals. The present study includes3experiments. In experiment1,60non-proficient bilingualswere selected from Hebei University. These participants were instructed to complete conceptdecision tasks under auditory condition in both study and test phrase to examine the effect ofcross-language repetition priming. In experiment2, another60participants were instructed tocomplete lexical tasks under auditory condition in both study phrase and test phrase. Inexperiment3,60participants were instructed to complete the concept decision tasks understudy phase and lexical decision tasks in test phase in auditory condition. The response timewas recorded and SPSS17.0software was used to analyze the data. The present study has three main conclusions:1、The effect of cross-language repetition priming exists in the concept decision task thatthe non-proficient bilinguals take under auditory condition. This supports the theory of sharedconceptual.2、The effect of cross-language repetition priming doesn’t exist in the lexical readingtask that the non-proficient bilinguals take under auditory condition. This supports the theoryof non-shared lexical representation. 3、The non-proficient bilinguals show the effect of cross-language repetition priming incompleting the concept decision tasks in study phase and lexical decision tasks in test phaseunder auditory condition. It supports the word association model.
