The Paradox Of Xu Dishan’s Novels

Xu Dishan has been considered to be one of the most characteristic writers in the modernliterary history of China.His literary creations show a religious atmosphere and exoticcolors,and they embody the ultimate concern about earthly mortals.In this thesis,I select adifferent angle from that of the previous research,interpreted the uniqueness of Xu Dishan’snovels,that is,through a close reading of the text, trying to find out the paradox of xu dishan’snovels, so as to create a relatively new research perspective.The paradox of Xu Dishan’s novels, mainly from four aspects: first, is the paradox underthe Existentialism. The existentialist, and Xu Dishan’s thought are very similar, on onehand,they suspect, have negative attitude towards life; and on the other hand, they also showa real spirit of optimism of life. Secondly, under the influence of Taoism is the paradoxicalattitude. The characters in his works has "the inactivity nature","go to" traditional Taoistconcept; on the other hand, they have tenacious struggle and the spirit of unremitting struggle.Third, is the paradox under the influence of the thought of "love". On the one hand, thecharacters in his works have a kind of "universal love" as Christ feelings; on the other side,the love and the tendency, he is more concerned with worldly love description. Finally, is the"paradox of the two world" collision feminine image. On the one hand, women in the worksof temperament and spirit of a sacred,separated from the mundane world; at the same time,the image of women in this hallowed and is restricted by traditional taboos and ethics. Theabove four aspects of the paradox, making his works present a tension.
