The Buddha statues of Tang Dynasty in Mogao Grottoes play a very important role in the development of Chinese Art History. When they were exposed to the alien arts, they also enhance the art to a new peak based on the one from Han Dynasty meanwhile. The present nine color statues in205caves are regarded as the excellent representatives of early Tang Dynasty. Being its graceful style and nice color, the damaged half‐sit cross‐legged Buddha in the center of the south side of altar is considered as the Venus of the East. Due the historical reasons, it was damaged seriously. In order to make a thorough research on the original appearance of the damaged statue, this paper focuses on copy process and restoration process of the object mainly.This paper consists of four chapters. The first one is introduction to the significance of the restoration and the background of the making of the205caves in Mogao Grottoes. While chapter is mainly about the description of the size, wall paintings and the statues as well as the analysis the features, characteristics and the present situation of the object. In chapter three, it is mainly about the field investigation of the writer so as to copy and restore the statue more vividly, together with the comparison of the statues of the same time. The last chapter is conclusion to the paper.This essay is centered around aesthetic principles of Mogao Grottoes, combined with Dunhuang Studies, the history of Chinese art, history and archaeology, which is intended to picture the marrow of art inTang Dynasty. Meanwhile, this essay is dedicated to represent the original look of Tang Dynasty and aimed at instructing the writer’s creation and research in the future.
